Collective whisky tasting - Friday June 8th
The Collective is organizing a very exclusive whisky tasting!
Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent whisky bottler. They haunt the world and select the finest casks from the greatest distilleries. This means you get the best barrels from the best distilleries. All single cask.
Together with them we have organized a whisky tasting where we get to meet whiskies from unexpected places. We all know the Scottish whisky, but many countries all over the world produce some really good stuff. Countries such as New Zealand, Japan and Canada make excellent whisky. During this tasting we get to meet some exciting new whiskies from all over the world.
The date is Friday June 8, starting at 7:30 pm. Halfway through this entertaining evening there will be a little snack. We have been arranged a special price for members of The Collective (and friends, do invite them!): 22,50 euro. Location is in their shop, Rozengracht 232, just around the corner of the fire brigade.
Please let me know if you want to be there, as they have to reserve enough whisky for everybody.
Also, the end-of-month drinks is still on this time next week in the new place. 5.30pm – Thursday 31st May.
Hope to see you at both!
Jack

Opening drinks – 31st May
Moving is hell. We’ve got almost everything set-up now but we still have to paint the stairs and 100 other things. We hope to be ready by the end of the month so we can have drinks on Thursday 31st May. It’s an informal but open borrel so bring some friends along. We’ll have a proper official opening next month when we have time to send out some invitations.
New cartoon
Another new cartoon from Fraser Bailey, Craig Lovelidge and Janneke Huijnk. It will air in Adformatie soon. We’re taking a break for the summer with the ads, as circulation goes way down. Watch this space for more adventures in the autumn.

Copenhagen visit
I visited Copenhagen in-between the riots and went round the agencies there. I got a very good response and hope to get some more work from there very soon.
Spring bulbs
Last week we took bulbs around all the Amsterdam agencies as presents for The Collective. It’s been three long days, but thanks to the efforts of Noah and Daniel the desks of the Dutch advertising industry are in full bloom.
Old ad magazines
We have a pile of old ad magazines in the office if someone would like to read them. We subscribe to Germany, Belgium, England and Dutch ad mags. Also, if you’d like to come by and read them as they come in then you’re most welcome.
Monthly drinks
We’ve missed a few months but we’re on now for Friday 30th March – 5.30pm in the office.
Collective cartoon
Due to an unfortunate incident involving a beer bottle and the pavement, Janneke our cartoonist is out of action. You’ll have to wait until next week for the next installment of The Internationalists.

German caller
I’m happy to welcome a new member of staff. Max Junghanns. He will be working part time calling German advertising agencies to promote the collective.
Xmas dinner
Keep this date free: 14th December. It will be the collective xmas dinner in Amsterdam. The Waag this year.
Mass-emailer - new members
A mass-email went out last week promoting our new members.
Timesheets
All invoices must also include corresponding timesheet entries on them, including date worked. It’s not enough just to put the start and end dates. It’s very confusing otherwise to add up totals.
Collective drinks
Only two people came to the last drinks. A failure. You obviously need more incentive. The next night will be a poker tournament. Details to follow.
Launch party
If you’re in Amsterdam on Thursday 9th November, come to the Melkweg. It’s the launch of my new album Long Live Love. All collective members are entitled to free guestlist, but it would be great if you could bring friends, loved ones, strangers from the street, as we had to hire the venue and want to at least break even. www.myspace.com/thejackstaffordfoundation If you want to be on the list please forward this email to sanna@therecordcompany.net with your name in the body.
New members
Happy to welcome the following new freelancers this month.

Robert won his first award aged six, in a national Typhoo Tea painting competition. Following school Robert trained as a photographer, working first as an assistant and then freelance in many parts of Europe. In 1984 Robert joined Saatchi & Saatchi as a Junior Art Director. Further posts followed at Lintas, JWT, and Springer & Jacoby in Hamburg, before he returned to Saatchi’s in Germany as Creative Director in 1993. Robert’s love of photography soon turned into a fascination with film and commercial production: his creative work has won awards in Berlin, London, New York, and Cannes. From 1995 to 1999 Robert was Executive Creative Director of Scholz & Friends in Hamburg, and from1999 until 2006, he was Executive Creative Director of FCB Europe, where he played a key role in running the worldwide Samsung Electronics business from FCB Frankfurt. For the past two years he has lead the Beiersdorf account as Worldwide Creative Director for FCB. | |||

Press coverage
We were interviewed by ReclameWeek today and there will be a full-page article on us in the next issue. They need a photo so we’re doing one in the office (Gerard Doustraat 248, Amsterdam) at 4pm this Monday. Can you come down? Men will wear my suits – ladies if you could wear something formal. The photo will also be used in magazines in other countries and will replace this one in our communications, but it will be a different concept. Maybe Reservoir Dogs. We’ll decide on the day. With so many creatives the ideas will be an embarrassment of riches. Bring one along!
Cartoon ad
Here’s the ad that Fraser Bailey and Craig Lovelidge have created. The wonderful illustration is by Janneke Huijnk. It ran in Adformatie last week and 3 new ones will appear in upcoming issues before the summer. I’ll send them as I get them. Great work.
New agent
I’m happy to welcome Lauren Alexander from South Africa to the team. She is working part-time calling British agencies from Campaign.
